Asian Fruit Encounter

 
The "sum-sum" helpers at school everyday provide the staff with a pot of rice, bowl of soup, and fresh fruit. The fruit is a treat every day, because I have been introduced to many new foods I never would have picked out myself in the market. Today I tried lychee for the first time. I'd had it in drinks as a flavor, but I never would have guessed this prickly little bugger was a lychee. You peel back the skin and membrane and there is this opaque sweet meat inside! It's delicious and indigenous to SE Asia! Wonder if Publix imports them at home?!
 

Still topping the list of favorite new fruits I've tried this year is the pink and green spiked dragon fruit, with mini black seeds inside:
